Monett Lady Cubs ended a two-game skid to open the week on Thursday night as they defeated the New Heights Lady Cougars in convincing fashion securing some momentum ahead of the Marionville Lady Comet Classic.
The week began in Monett as the Lady Cubs welcomed the Springfield Catholic Lady Irish to Monett. The Lady Cubs defense was excellent as they held the typically high octane offense of the Lady Irish to just 46 points. However, Catholic was able to make free throws late to secure the 46-40 defeat of the Lady Cubs. Tuesday night, Monett was on the road but stayed in Lawrence County as they battled the Miller Lady Cardinals. Monett started hot but the Lady Cardinals used a great defensive effort to defeat the Lady Cubs, 57-42. The Lady Cubs returned to friendly confines on Thursday when New Heights came to town. The offense came alive for Monett, Thursday night as they enjoyed one of their best shooting nights of the season for a 69-54 victory.
Monett moves to 7-7 for the season as they prepare to compete in the Marionville tournament where they are the fifth seed. They opened on Monday where they took on the four seed Clever. A win would set up a semifinal matchup with the winner of Marionville and Spokane on Thursday at 6 p.m. A loss would move them to the consolation side where they would take on the loser for those two teams on Thursday at 6 p.m.
