Monett baseball gets two more wins, Lady Cubs Soccer knocks off three last week

The Monett High School baseball team went 2-1 last week picking up wins over Ash Grove and Aurora.

The Cubs hosted Ash Grove on Friday, April 17 and came away with a har- fought and well-pitched 1-0 win.

With the score tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Monett was able to walk off the Pirates when Samuel Carr delivered a base loaded single into left field driving in Adam Martinez with the winning run.

Carr went 1-3 with an RBI, Carson Burtrum was 1-3 and Pablo Rueda finished 1-3. Rueda was the star of the game as he went seven innings, allowing no runs on just two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Monett traveled to Cassville on Tuesday, April 14 but fell to the Wildcats 4-2.

Cassville led 2-0 after the first inning, but Monet was able to tie the game after a two-run fourth inning. The Wildcats regained the lead with a two-run fifth inning and then held on for the win.

Tucker Goetz and Carr both went 1-3 with an RBI in the game.

The Cubs started their week by hosting Aurora on Monday, April 13 and after 11 innings, walked it off with a 6-5 win.

Monett led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the third inning. A three-run fifth inning gave Aurora a 3-2 lead but the Cubs answered back with three of their own in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead 5-3. Single runs by the Houn Dawgs in the sixth and seventh innings tied the game 5-5. Monett walked off the game in the bottom of the 11th inning, to win 6-5.

Miles Young was 2-5 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI, Dylan Washick went 2-6 with a run scored and two RBIs and Goetz finished the game 1-5 with two RBIs.

Monett is 10-5 on the season and were scheduled to play at Sarcoxie on Monday and Class 4, eighth ranked Nevada last night before hosting Class 2, fifth ranked Seneca tomorrow night.

 

Girls soccer

The Lady Cubs soccer team defeated Fair Grove 8-0 at home on Thursday night. Earlier in the week, Monett defeated McDonald County on the road 3-0 on Tuesday and beat Marshfield on the road 1-0 in double overtime on Monday.

Monett is 5-3 on the season and were scheduled to play at Cassville last night and Logan-Rogersville tomorrow night.
