Miller wins district tournament, Cardinals knock off top ranked Purdy to advance to sectional round
The Class 2, seventh ranked Miller High School baseball team defeated Class 2, top ranked Purdy in the championship game of the Class 2, District 11 tournament in Marionville on Monday, May 18, 4-0.
The Cardinals got on the board first when Keagan Krempges singled to left field to drive in Hayden Schnake, giving Miller a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Nathan Cunningham doubled to right field to knock in Krempges and Paul Nunez to increase the Cardinals lead to 3-0. Krempges picked up his second RBI of the game in the fifth inning when he doubled in Schnake with Miller’s fourth and final run of the game.
Krempges was 3-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs and Cunningham finished the game 1-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jase Wilkenson got the win, going seven innings, allowing no runs on one hit, with two walks and 15 strikeouts.
Miller is 17-8 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Urbana on Monday to play against Skyline in the Class 2 sectional round. The quarterfinals will be played tonight.
