Mark M. Peters

Mark M. Peters, 63, of Pierce City, passed away June 14, 2020. Peters was born to Major Jerry Peters and Virginia (Barnett) Peters Oct. 3, 1956 in Fort Belvoir, Va. He graduated from Pierce City High School in 1974 and went on to pursue a career in the United States Army, serving from 1983-1986. He remained in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1989. Peters then returned to academic life completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and received his bachelor of arts in 1990. He returned to Missouri to earn his doctorate in law from the University of Missouri in 1994 and became a member of the Missouri Bar in 1995. He practiced law in downtown Pierce City where he also proudly served as mayor from 2002-2006.
He was married to Kenna Lucile Turley in 2006 in Eureka Springs, Ark.; she survives. He is also survived by: daughters, McKelvie (Zach) Gilmore, Nicole (Jason) Whisman and Mattie (Kaden) Gilmore; mother, Virginia Peters; brother, Eric (Ryna) Peters; sisters, Valerie (Art) Sommer and Victoria (Phil) Howerton; five grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Peters.
Graveside services and military honors were held June 22, 2020 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Arrangements were entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
