MARILYN KAYE LARSON

Marilyn Kaye Larson, 79, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2020,  at Republic Nursing and Rehab in Republic, Missouri.  She was born May 31, 1940 to James (Shorty) and Lois (Moore) Barnes, in Aurora, Missouri.  On September 2, 1966, she married Bruce Larson and shared 53 years of marriage.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.
She grew up on the family farm in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.  Graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1958.  She spent most of her life living and working in this community.  She was known to many and never met a stranger.
She had a passion and generosity for helping others either as a teller for 30 years at First National Bank in Mt. Vernon, a volunteer in the gift shop at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon and especially as a recovering alcoholic working with anyone serious about finding sobriety.  She was tenacious but her intentions were always in the spirt of a giving heart.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughters, Debbie (John) Bussman, Dora (Randy) Richmond and Beverly (Kent) Owens, all of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Jim (Evelyn) Barnes, of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Linda Schoen of Monett, Missouri and Gayle (Gary) Butler of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Shorty and Lois, brother, Richard Barnes, son-in-law, Stephen Wynne, brother-in-law, Gary Schoen and great- grandson, Stephen Tyler Wynne.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Emergency Services for Children, in Mt. Vernon, or the Byron E. Taylor Christian Service Center in Aurora, in care of the funeral home.
