Margaret Gertrude Finley Shaffer died at 4:10 AM July 19, 2019 and entered eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Visitation will be held on July 26th at Potts Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 AM in the First Southern Baptist Church of Independence, KS.  Burial will be at the Round Grove Cemetery, Miller, MO.
Margaret was born on September 6, 1928 in Blansett, Arkansas to James and Ida Finley.  She was the first born of 5 children.  After graduation from Wister, Oklahoma schools, she attended Eastern OK A & M, OSU, Pittsburgh State and Neosho Community College.In 1964 Margaret earned her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburgh. Later in life she pursued and received a degree in nursing from Neosho Community College. She met Ed Shaffer while a student at OSU. They married November 24, 1950 and began a family with daughter, Cindy’s birth in 1952 followed by son, Gordon in 1954.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed, her parents, a brother, two half-sisters and her second husband, Q.L. Reynolds.  She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Ron) Pracht of Wichita and Gordon Shaffer, Independence.  Three granddaughters: Rachel Pracht of Kansas City, MO, Priscilla Broz of Wichita, KS and Faith Dalton (Josh) of Lee’s Summit, MO and two grandsons: Grant Shaffer (Elise) of Stillwater, OK and Gared Shaffer (Emily) of Aberdeen, S.D.  There are also six great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She taught elementary school for 11 years and worked as a nurse for 10 years as a second career. She and Ed were involved in missions during their marriage and into retirement.  She served in Reno, NV, New Orleans, LA and taught in a mission schools in American Samoa. Traveling was one of the joys of her retirement years along with mission work.
