Lawrence County well-represented on hardwood in fourth annual SWMO All-Star Saturday
Last Saturday marked the fourth annual All-Star Saturday event hosted by SWMO Sports at Mission University, where Lawrence County was well-represented.
In the underclassman girls game, we had an Aurora-Mt. Vernon showdown of captains Kylee Cole, of Aurora and Cheyenne Bieber, of Mt. Vernon earned the honors. Team Cole used their defensive prowess to overpower Team Bieber 50-36. Bieber and Mt. Vernon teammate Addie Hall both played facilitator roles as the two combined for just two points. On the other side, Cole and Aurora teammate Makena Hall contributed nine and seven points respectively in the victory.
The underclassman boys game was also dominated by Lawrence County participants, as Houn’ Dawg assistant coach Kyran Dixon made his debut against a whole host of Dawgs, Mt’neers and Cardinals. Aurora sophomore Cannon Thornhill was named a captain in the game and got nine points to fall. Cameron Whitener and Thomas Lara also joined Thornhill and added in five and six points in the game. Mt. Vernon’s Jarrett Zerby chipped in two and Miller’s Owen Weiss added 12 in Team Thornhill’s 112-86 loss.
Another participant of local interest was Landon Jones of Mt. Vernon, who contributed three points in a senior boys game that saw 40 three pointers made. Jones was a member of Team Lafferty who got the win 110-107. Miller Lady Cardinals head Coach Ryan White coached Team Bieber and Aurora Lady Houn’s head coach Jason Cole coached in the senior girls game.
Other participants within county lines included Bryer and Gage Guerin of Marionville, Lucy Newberry from Marionville and Jaicee Carrasquillo of Verona. The event also featured Jake Stellwagen who was formerly from Verona.
