Law. Co. Sheriff’s Office reports death of inmate

In a press release distributed Tuesday, March 2, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of a Lawrence County Jail inmate.
A 63-year-old female died Monday afternoon at an area hospital after deputies discovered the female unconscious in her cell.
The Lawrence County Jail staff noticed the female who was in her cell alone was in an awkward sitting position. Control notified 911 and jail staff of the situation.
Deputies and staff immediately responded to the cell block area where they located the inmate unconscious. Life saving measures were implemented and EMS was dispatched. The inmate was transported to an area hospital were she later succumbed to her injuries.
No foul play is suspected but the Lawrence County Coroner will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. No further information is being released at this time.
