Law. Co. missing person case turns into homicide investigation

A phone call to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 1, 2019 to report a missing person has now been turned into a possible homicide case.
The Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a family member regarding the possible disappearance of one of their relatives. This family member had not heard from the victim for several weeks and contacted the Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 1, 2019 to file a missing persons report.
As detectives began the investigation, information was discovered regarding the victim including use of their vehicles and financial information that led detectives to conduct further investigations with the assistance of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office because of possible ties to Greene County.
As those investigations progressed and persons of interests and witnesses were interviewed, information was obtained as to a possible location of human remains.
With the assistance of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office crime scene and detective unit and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office detective unit and dive team, what are believed to be human remains were located.
Those remains have been collected and sent to various locations for identification.
At this time, two persons of interest are in custody at the Lawrence County Jail but no formal charges have been filed as of yet. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
