Lady Mt’neers cruise to district semis

It had been over a year since the Lady Mt’neers had competed in district basketball and they returned in a big way. Mt. Vernon wiped the floor with Seneca, Monday night in a resounding 68-25 win.
Mt. Vernon used a lethal full court press to jump out to a 16-4 lead. Audrey Bittle hit a three with 4:00 left in the first quarter to extend the lead to 19-4. Taylor Gaddy got a few free throws to fall and the Lady Mt’neers led 25-4 after one quarter.
Mt. Vernon continued to keep the pressure rolling, as the lead grew quickly to a 36-7 advantage midway through the second quarter. Addie Hall and Emmie Schubert each got a bucket to fall. Cheyenne Bieber concluded an 8-0 run before she really caught fire in the second half. Mt. Vernon led 44-15 at the halftime break.
The Lady Mt’neers kept the pressure going as they pressed their way to easy points on the other end. Bieber ended up capping off her 25-point performance in the third quarter as Mt. Vernon cruised to a 68-25 victory over Seneca.
The Lady Mt’neers will return to action Wednesday night when they have a rematch against Monett in the semifinal game at 7:30.
