Lady Mt’neers continue to rack up wins, Mt. Vernon baseball loses to Licking

The Class 2, fifth ranked Lady Mt’neers traveled to Baxter Springs, Kan. on Saturday, March 28 and came home with a 9-3 win.

 

Mt. Vernon scored two runs in the first inning, four runs in the third inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Baxter Springs scored all their runs in the third inning.

 

Lisa Stewart was 1-3, with a run scored and four RBIs, Emily Schubert went 3-4 with a double and an RBI, Hailey Stewart was 1-4 with a triple and an RBI and Lilly Burk finished the game 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

 

The Lady Mt’neers hosted the Mt. Vernon Tournament from Monday, March 23-Wednesday, March 25, winning all four of the games they played.

 

On Tuesday, Mt. Vernon defeated Class 1, fifth ranked Purdy, 15-0. The Lady Mt’neers scored two runs in the first inning, nine runs in the second inning and four runs in the third inning.

 

Schubert went 2-2 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. She also got the win, going three innings, allowing no runs on one hit with seven strike outs. Hailey Stewart was 3-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs, Lisa Stewart went 3-3, with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Kenzie Tomsitz was 1-1 with two RBIs.

 

The Lady Mt’neers also defeated Ash Grove 11-1 on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon scored one run in the second inning, five runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning. Ash Grove scored their lone run in the first inning.

 

Lisa Stewart was 2-3 with a double, triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Schubert got the win, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and 11 strike outs.

 

On Monday, Mt. Vernon defeated Strafford 15-0. The Lady Mt’neers scored three runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and seven runs in the third inning.

 

Eli Eddington went 2-2, with a double and a home run, a run scored and four RBIs, Hailey Stewart was 2-2 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs, Jocelyn Liss went 3-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, Burk was 1-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Schubert got the win, going three innings, allowing no runs on one hit with eight strike outs.

 

In their first game of the tournament on Monday, the Lady Mt’neers defeated New Hights Schritian Academy 16-0. Mt Vernon scored eight runs in both the first and second innings.

 

Liss went 2-2 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Hailey Stewart was 1-1 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs, Eddington went 2-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Adi Williams was 1-2 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs and Schubert was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing no runs and striking out eight.

 

Mt. Vernon is now 9-1 on the season and were scheduled to play at Ash Grove on Monday and Pittsburgh, Kan. last night before hosting Lamar tomorrow night.

 

Baseball

 

The Mt. Vernon baseball team played in the Cassville/Seneca Tournament at Cassville from Thursday, March 25 through Saturday.

 

On Saturday, Mt. Vernon lost to Cassville 7-5. The Mt’neers scored two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fifth inning. Cassville scored two runs in the second inning, four runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning.

 

The Mt’neers lost to Strafford 4-0 on Friday, March 27. The Indians scored two runs in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth innings.

 

Mt. Vernon played two games on Thursday, March 25, losing to Seneca 9-4 and Grove, Okla., 13-8. 

 

Against Seneca, Mt. Vernon scored one run in the first and third innings and two runs in the fourth inning. Seneca scored two runs in the first inning, six runs on the second inning and one run in the fourth inning.

 

Grove scored nine runs in the first inning, single runs in the second and fourth innings and two runs in the third inning. The Mt’neers scored one run in the second and fourth innings and six runs in the fifth inning.

 

Mt. Vernon started their week by traveling to Stockton on Monday to play in the championship game of the Stockton Tournament but lost to Licking 8-3.

 

The Tigers scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the sixth inning and five runs in the seventh inning. The Mt’neers scored all three of their runs in the seventh inning.

 

Mt. Vernon is 2-5 on the season and were scheduled to play against Lighthouse SR High last night and Pierce City tomorrow night before traveling to Billings on Friday night.
