Lady Houn’s advance to quarterfinals after defeating Rogersville
The Aurora Lady Houn’s are one game away from their first ever Final Four after defeating Logan-Rogersville for the third time this year, 54-40.
Aurora swept through the district tournament with a 55-27 victory over East Newton before taking the title game 46-9 over Mt. Vernon, Logan-Rogersville was up next.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter with Aurora earning a 15-13 lead after one.
Aurora opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run that was capped off by Kylee Cole getting fouled on a three pointer and hitting all three free throws that followed. The teams traded baskets but Cole got the shot of the night to fall with a half court buzzer beater that gave Aurora a 28-20 lead.
Rogersville used their height to go on a mini-run in the third quarter but Cole knocked down free throws at the end of the game to secure the 54-40 victory and their spot in the quarterfinals.
Cole led the way with 23 points for the Lady Houn’s followed by 11 from Makena Hall. Allyssa Burch chipped in nine points, along with five from Jaelyn Ernest. Wrapping up scoring was four from Brooke Blevins and two from Nadia Davis.
Aurora improves to 25-4 for the season and has a big opportunity as they will host 21-7 Owensville, Friday night with a trip to Columbia for the Final Four on the line. A time for that game has not been announced as of Monday night. Check MSHSAA’s website for details.
