The Stockton Tournament has been used as launching points for the end of the season for the Lady Cardinals the last three years, but Miller built some great momentum with wins over Sarcoxie and Monett last week.
The Lady Cardinals began Monday as they hosted Sarcoxie in their SWC opener with the Lady Bears. While the score eventually looked like a convincing win for Miller, 55-37, Sarcoxie had Miller’s number for about two and a half quarters, keeping the game very tight. However, Loghann Leivan and Ashlynn Helton were able to lead Miller to the 18-point victory. The next night, it was Monett’s turn to try to snap the three-game win streak. Freshman Layni Johnson was the hero as her 19 points fueled a big second half for the Lady Cardinals for a 57-42 win over the Class 4 Lawrence County foe.
Miller improves to 9-5 for the season and currently rides a four-game win streak heading into the Stockton Tournament. They opened play on Monday as the three seed against the sixth seeded Butler. They will be back in action on Thursday where a win would put them in the semifinal game against either Chadwick or Lamar at 8:45 p.m. A loss would pit them against the loser of the aforementioned game at 5:45 p.m.
