Kent McAlexander

Kent McAlexander, 95, of Monett, passed away, July 17, 2019, while at Lacoba Homes in Monett.
McAlexander was born Nov. 15, 1923 in Mayetta, Kan., to the late John William McAlexander and Edna (Reynolds) McAlexander. In 1943, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In 1946, he was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal. He received his master’s degree from the University of Ohio. He taught art at both Bethany College and then Northeast Missouri State University, collectively for over 40 years, retiring in 1991.
In 1950, McAlexander and his wife moved to Independence, Kan. Then in 1959, they moved to Bethany, W.V. In 1968, they moved to Kirksville, where they resided for 30 years until moving to Monett in 1998. While in Monett for over 20 years, he was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling and gardening.
He married Florence Helen Evey Aug. 3, 1946. To this union, they were blessed with three children. They celebrated over 69 years together before her passing in 2016.
He is survived by: his sister, Corrine Eigenman, of Mayetta, Kan.; son, Bruce (Jeanette) McAlexander of Monett; daughter, Lynda (Carl) Norton of Monett; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by: son, Arnold McAlexander; grandson, Andrew Norton; three brothers, Fremont, Elroy and John McAlexander; and three sisters, Eunice Vaught, Lucy Buehler and Verda Williams.  
Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Mayetta Cemetery in Mayetta, Kan. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 424, Monett, MO 65708. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
