JERRY G. JAMES
Jerry G. James, 87, of Monett, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. Jerry was born in Monett, Missouri on September 5, 1937; the son of John Monroe and Mary Matilda (Ballay) James.
Jerry graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1956. He retired as the Maintenance Director of the Monett Public Schools. He was involved in many civic organizations. Jerry enjoyed the club members and various projects that each club provided for the community. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Monett (Waymark Church) he taught Sunday School, was a deacon and was instrumental in establishing the church’s van ministry.
Jerry was always quick to have a joke for anyone, hoping to make them laugh or bring a smile to their face. Jerry was a jack-of-all trades and tried to fix whatever was broken. He was devoted to his family, whom he loved very much.
On November 27, 1959, Jerry married Helen Jane Mooney in Monett. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; one son, Jeff James and wife Mechele; two daughters, Joni Sue Dohmen and husband Frank and Julie Wages and husband Matt; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Justin James; one brother, William “Hank” James; and two sisters, Annabelle Burnetti and Mary Lou Gripka.
Services were held on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Waymark Church in Monett, with Reverend Tony Martin and Reverend Gregg Mercer officiating. A private family interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Barry Lawrence County Development Center or Compassus of Monett.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri.
