James Edward Brown

Graveside services for James Edward Brown who was born July 6. 1939, in Miller will be held Friday, October 12, at 10:30 at the Summit Cemetery in Mt. Vernon and will be officiated by Pastor Tim Brewer of the Miller Christian Church.
Mr. Brown died January 10, 2018 at age 78. at the Temecula Valley Hospital in Temecula, CA. He was given full military honors at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. in January. After serving in the US Navy for 20 years, he retired as an Avionics/Master Chief and obtained his MBA and went on for a lengthy career in project management and training. During this time, he also taught several project management courses to graduate students at National University and the Keller School of Management in San Diego. After his second retirement, he volunteered at the USS Midway in San Diego in the curatorial department where he was awarded Volunteer of the Month in December 2014. Mr. Brown served on this ship during the Vietnam War from 1963-66 in VF-21 Squadron and was a member of the Squadrons and Shipmates organization.
 For over 10 years he volunteered with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and was posted at the Lake Elsinore Police Department in Lake Elsinore CA. During this time he served in many roles and his last assignment was Volunteer Neighborhood Watch Director. For his faithful volunteer ethic, he was feted as Volunteer of the Year for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Also he and wife Janice were  involved in emergency preparedness and served in the Riverside County Disaster Corps.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife Janice, of Santee, CA, his son Elmer Eugene and granddaughters Alicia and Justine all of PA. He is also survived by his sister Lucille Huffman, of Mt. Vernon, and brothers Troy of VA, Bob of Kansas City, Harold of Mt. Vernon, and Carl of Denver CO. He is preceded in death by his son James Edward Jr. and his parents Elmer “Mode” Brown and Mattie Doss Brown of Miller.
