James David “JD” Campbell

James David “JD” Campbell, age 78, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020, at his home.  He was born September 21, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri, the son of James Daniel “Dan” and Lucy “Jewell” (Peppers) Campbell.
JD grow up in the Chesapeake, Halltown and Mt. Vernon area.  He attended school in Mt. Vernon and was a mechanic from the age of 16 and was an over the road truck driver for 24 years.
JD loved to play the guitar, sing, and write songs.  He was an avid golfer, loved to play pool, card tricks and playing poker.  His favorite saying was “Make you a wager on that.”  He had a very soft heart and he would do anything for anyone.  He really loved his grand and great-grandchildren.
On April 5, 1967, he married Sharon Patricia Lyon, in Mt. Vernon.
JD is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon; his children, Phyllis Murphy, Giny Porter, Teresa Bergstrom, Danny Porter, Tina Pickett, Rick “Jody” McRoberts, Kimmy Hilton and Shirley McLaren; his siblings, Eddie Campbell, Carol Weise and Charlie Campbell, all of Mt. Vernon and Donnie Campbell of Republic, Missouri; mother-in-law, Esther Lyon; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Jewell and brother, Jack Campbell.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the Summit Cemetery northeast of Mt. Vernon.  Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, in the funeral home chapel.
