James “Jim” Edward Johnson

James “Jim” Edward Johnson, 75, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Aurora, passed away June 15, 2019, at Clarehouse Hospice in Tulsa. He was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minn. to David Leroy “Roy” and Hilda Marie “Pat” (Jensen) Johnson.
Johnson was a 1961, graduate of Aurora High School and received his bachelor of science degree in education from SMSU (now MSU), as well as a master’s degree in guidance & counseling. He was a retired high school English teacher and coach, serving the majority of his career for Aurora Public Schools. He coached multiple sports including football and track and basketball for both boys and girls. On June 9, 1962, he married Gerry Johnson in Miami, Okla. He was an avid sports fan, who excelled in football, baseball, softball, and basketball. He was a member of the 1964 Missouri State University inaugural baseball team. In later years, his joy came from supporting OU softball
Johnson is survived by: daughters, Gina (Randy) Miller of Tulsa and Stephanie Johnson of Aurora; brother, Bob Johnson, of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters. He is preceded in death by: his wife, Gerry; his parents; sister, Judy (Johnson); Brown and his brother, David Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora. Burial will follow at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorials may be made to any of the following: “University of Oklahoma Foundation” for the OU Softball Stadium Renovation project (Sooner Club, 180 W. Brooks, Norman, OK 73019), or “Seasons Hospice” in Tulsa, Okla. or “Clarehouse Hospice Home” in Tulsa, Okla. Please note ‘Jim Johnson Memoriam’ in any correspondence.
