Gilbert Chester Ross

Gilbert Chester Ross age, 87, of Mount Vernon, Missouri passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 4:02 am, May 26, 2019 at his home. A memorial service will be Thursday May 30th at St. Susanne’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon officiated by Father Chori Seraiah.  Visitation will be at the church from 9:00am-10:00am, Catholic Mass at 10:00 am with graveside service after at Campground Cemetery in Mount Vernon.  Memorials may be made to St. Susanne’s Food pantry.
Gilbert was born on September 7th, 1931 in Racine, Wisconsin to Floyd and Belle Ross.  They moved to Birchwood, Wisconsin when he was a young boy where his parents owned and operated Fernwood Resort.  He married Joan Irene Sengpill on January 5th, 1952 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Birchwood.  They moved to Spring Valley, Wisconsin in 1968 and then to Mount Vernon, Missouri in 1972, where they have resided for the past 47 years.
Gilbert and Joan raised and showed horses for 33 years and farmed since he was 17 years old until he retired in 1980.  He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, creating artwork, and spending time with his family.  He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Susanne’s Food Pantry.  
Gilbert survived by his wife Joan Ross (Sengpill), three sons, Daniel (Becky) Ross, Steve Ross, and Mark Ross; two daughters Catherine (Steve) Widiker and Patricia (Roni) Hendry; ten grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Liermann, Michael (Bridgette) Widiker, Brandi (Justin) Bellis, Travis (Sarah) Ross, Steven J. (Nikki) Ross, Nathan (Josie) Ross, Natelie (Christopher) Elliott, Ronnie (Kaylynn) Hendry, Ricky (Jamie) Hendry and Randy Hendry; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Bell Ross and his bother Gordon (Marie) Ross.
