Frances Janette Smith

Frances Janette Smith, 84, of Monett passed away Oct. 6 from a brief illness.
Smith was born in Springfield on Aug. 24, 1936, the only child born to Francis Ershal Medlin and Bonnie May (Lee) Medlin. Her family later moved to Purdy and it was there where she grew up, and later graduated from Purdy High School. She married Charles on Oct. 8, 1955, they moved to Arkansas briefly while Charles was in the United States Army. After living in California and Oklahoma, they made their home in Monett, where in 1967, in their garage, Charles and Janette started a small machine shop which grew until they purchased a building on 1st Street that became C&J Machine Shop. She was a member of the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Purdy for several years.
She is survived by her children, David C. Smith, Donny S. Smith, and Veronica L. (Darrell) Hoyer, all of Monett; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles Smith.
A graveside service was held Oct. 9, 2020 at the Bethel Cemetery, south of Monett. Visitation was held on Thursday at Buchanan Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
