Eugene Emmitt “Gene” Roetto

Eugene Emmitt “Gene” Roetto, 76, of Monett passed away Feb. 7, 2021, while at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1944 at home in rural Barry County, son of the late Emmitt John Roetto and Helen Margaret (Seufert) Roetto. He grew up helping his father on the family farm and attended school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Pulaskifield, where he was also a member of the church. He later became a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. For 22 years, he served his country honorably in the United States Army National Guard, 203rd Engineering Battalion, Pierce City. For over 40 years, he worked for the City of Monett Water Department.
On Feb. 10, 1968, he married Marilyn Sue Witt at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. To this union, they were blessed with four children.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Chris (Michelle) Roetto, of McKinney, Texas, David (Lisa) Roetto, of Fayetteville, Ga, Dennis (Terri) Roetto, of Lowell, Ark.; Amanda Roetto, of Bel Air, Md.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Mary Kathryn (Gary) Aleck, Mulberry, Ark., Joan Maples, Diamond, Pauline (Ron) Smith, Milton, Fla. and Rosemary (Larry) Scroggs, Monett as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Friends paid their respects Feb. 10, 2021 at Buchanan Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Feb.11 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Monett. Memorials can be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or School. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
