Drive through “Meet and Greet”event planned for Mt. Vernon Elementary students, families

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Mt. Vernon Elementary School has made changes to their “Meet and Greet” event for students to begin the school year.
This year’s event will now be held as a drive through gathering.
Pre-K and kindergarten students will drive through from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21 and first and second grade students time will be 5:30-6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24.
A map and directions will be sent out as the date approaches. Students will get to smile and wave to teachers. Colored balloons will indicate each teacher’s post, and teachers will hand students any paperwork they have. For students in first and second grade, teacher assignment should have been given out when items were picked up at the end of school. Kindergarten students teacher assignments were mailed out on Monday, Aug. 10. Parents are asked to not call the school for their child’s teacher’s name. No class assignments will be given via phone. If parents have not received a letter by Wednesday, Aug. 19, a call to the school to check addresses will be necessary. Preschool teacher assignments will be given when final placement is made. Parents will be notified at this time.
In addition, there are plans to host a “Virtual Meet and Greet” that will have an online link where students can hear from teachers and see the classroom virtually before the first day of school.
For more information, you can follow the social media accounts for the school. Follow on Twitter at: MVES@MVElementary or on Facebook at Mount Vernon Elementary School @mvesproud. The school also has an Instagram account coming soon.
All details can be found there as the first day of school gets closer. An email with details regarding these events will also be available closer to the date.
School administrators would like to thank everyone for patience as they navigate this journey through these “unusual” times.”
