Doyle E. Price

Doyle E. Price, 77, of Webb City passed away March 9, 2019, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix Ariz. following a sudden illness. Price was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Rombauer, to Milford and Hazel Gillean Price.
Price was a graduate of the Fisk High School and attended college on a full athletic scholarship. He was selected to the Region VII Junior College All-Tournament team in 1962. He was captain of the Southern Baptist Junior College Basketball Team in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and chosen as Mr. Southern at Southern Baptist, an honor chosen by the staff as the person they feel will best represent the college upon graduation. Price received his bachelor’s degree from University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., his master’s degree from Drury College in Springfield and his specialist’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. Price spent 32 years in education. He served as the head basketball coach at Reeds Spring High School from 1966-1977, and assistant principal the last two years. He served as principal at Southwest High School in Washburn from 1977-1987. He was principal of the Webb City Junior High School from 1987-1990 and principal of the High School from 1990-1993. He served as superintendent of Schools for the East Newton Schools near Granby from 1993-1998. He served on local Community Teachers Associations, State Teachers Assoc., Southwest Secondary Principals Assoc., Missouri State Principals Assoc., National Assoc. of Superintendents Assoc. and was a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Assoc. Board of Directors for two terms. Price was a member of the Wellspring Church in Webb City where he loved serving as a greeter. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed getting together with his former basketball players and dearly loved spending time with his sons, and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed.
Price married Sandra K. Laster Sept. 4, 1965, in Fort Smith, Ark. and she survives. Additional survivors includes: sons, Daryl Price (Charisse), of Atlanta, Ga., Gary (Rhonda)Price of Webb City and Craig (Candi) Price, Baxter Springs, Kan.; brothers, Ron (Millie) Price, Searcy, Ark. and Larry (Judy) Price, of Aurora, sister, Lula (Marvin) Vaughn of Little Rock, Ark.;and eight grandchildren.
Services were held March 16, at the Wellspring Church in Webb City. Burial followed at the Oronogo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
