Don L. McKinzie

Don L. McKinzie, 74, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at home. He was born March 8, 1951, in Lamar, the son of R.E. and Betty Lou (Lankford) McKinzie.
He was a 1969 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnan Era. He was a lab technician for the Missouri State Chest Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed playing pool and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jenny Groves and her husband, David, of Ash Grove, and Janetta Rose and her husband, Kevin, of Park, Colo.; one son, Joseph McKinzie and his wife, Tracy, of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Dea Furgason and Diana McKinzie, both of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Dan McKinzie and his wife, Lisa, of Republic; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. and Betty; two brothers, Dave, and Dennis McKinzie; one grandson, Marty Groves; and brother-in-law, John Furgason.
A graveside service under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, in the funeral home chapel.
