DALE LEE SCOTT
Dale Lee Scott passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his home in Mount Vernon, Missouri. A generous and kind man, who tried never to “let the old man in” during his long illness. Dale was born February 26, 1942, in Springfield, Missouri, to Jack and Belle Scott (Snider).
On August 5, 1960, he married Paula Brown, his high school sweetheart, and mother of their two children, Carri, and Tim. Paula died on December 10, 2004. Dale later married Kaye Bell (Swearingen) on June 28, 2008, and gained a family whom he loved dearly.
Dale is survived by his wife, Kaye; children, Carri Yount (Kenneth) and Timothy (Ligia); his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca and Kent Yount (Kiersten), Gabriela Scott and Maria Scott-Smith (Spencer); 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin and Elise Yount; his brothers, Don Scott (Pat) and John Scott (Laverna); and sister, Carol Holmes (Carl) of Tennessee; and brother-in-law, Paul Eugene Brown.
Dale spent his adult life in Mount Vernon. He worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation and for the Carnation Company, which later became Silgan Containers. He retired from Silgan Containers in 1996, after 30 years of service and then worked for himself doing farming and electrical work, often with his dear friend Gene Robinson.
Dale had a passion for engineering and building things. His accomplishments include homes, barns, playsets, and overseeing construction of the Mount Vernon First United Methodist Church, now the Family of Christ Church. He restored several antique tractors and vintage trucks. Dale is well known for his generosity to others and his acts of kindness. Friends, family, and strangers were blessed by his willingness to share his time, knowledge, and skills with anyone who needed them.
He will be dearly missed by his family. His devoted and loving wife, Kaye, has been a wonderful companion and tireless caregiver.
He was loved deeply by Kaye’s family; children Roxanne Bell (Glen Hancock), Regina Steward (Scott), Christine Maddocks (Bob); 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Jack Swearingen (Doloris). Kaye is predeceased by her son, Jason W. Bell.
A celebration of Dale’s life will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Mt. Vernon Family of Christ Church under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. There will be a visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m. before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Emergency Services for Children, Freistatt Lions Club, or Family of Christ Church in care of the funeral home.
