Cubs baseball drops two game last week, Lady Cubs soccer loses in district tournament
The Monett High School baseball team ended their 2026 regular season with two games on the road, traveling to Lamar and Class 5, second ranked Webb City last week.
The Cubs went to Lamar on Tuesday, May 12 but fell to the Tigers 7-5.
Monett led 2-0 after the first inning and increased the lead to 4-0 after the top of the third inning. Lamar scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. A single run by Monett in the top of the fifth inning made it 5-3. Lamar answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead in the game. The Tigers added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the scoring for the game.
Samuel Carr went 2-4 with three RBIs, Tucker Goetz was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Dylan Washick finished up 1-4 with an RBI.
On Monday, May 11, the Cubs traveled to Webb City but lost to the Cardinals 13-3.
Webb City led 3-0 after the first inning, 4-0 after the second inning and 7-0 at the end of the fourth inning. Monett scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-3 but the Cardinals added six runs in the bottom of the fifth to close out the game.
Brayden Seitz was 2-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI, Carson Burtrum went 1-3 with a double and an RBI and Miles Young finished the game 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Monett is 13-12 on the season and were scheduled to play Aurora in the Class 4, District 12 semifinals on Monday in Aurora. The championship game was scheduled for last night.
Soccer
The 2026 girls soccer season has come to end for the Monett Lady Cubs after they lost to Clinton 8-0 in the opening round of the Class 2, District 5 tournament in Rogersville on Saturday, May 16.
Earlier in the week, Monett traveled to New Covenant Academy but lost to the Lady Warriors 9-1 on Tuesday.
Monett ends their season with an 8-15 record.
