Mt. Vernon High School students, parents and staff showed their support for MVHS student Preston Hardyman, a student who was hospitalized with a serious heart issue, during the game against Logan-Rogersville on Friday, Sept. 16. Several students wore neon colors in solidarity with Preston, while the MVHS cheerleaders wore matching tie-dyed t-shirts. Buckets were set up at the concession stand for people to put donations in, and volunteers from the cheerleaders and the student squad took up a collection for Preston at halftime. Altogether, over $4,000 was raised during the game to benefit Preston.
Sheriff Brad DeLay said that Preston was in need of a heart transplant, and on the day of the game, an operation to replace his heart was successful.
