Cheri Elise Mikkelson

Cheri Elise Mikkelson, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, was called home to her heavenly father after a long battle with cancer at 4:24 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at her home.  She was born June 13, 1947, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight and Esther (Jakowski) Calvert.
Cheri was a 1965 graduate of Fullerton High School in Fullerton, California.  She was passionate about God, family, and her horses.  Her husband and best friend shared those same passions and were blessed with 21 years of marriage and were members of the Kings Point Baptist Church in Lockwood, Missouri.  
On December 9, 2000, she married Dean Willard Mikkelson, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Cheri and her husband, Dean, raised quarter horses and paint horses and showed them all over the country at major futurities and world shows.  They also traveled the country with friends, camping and trail riding.
Cheri was a realtor when she and her husband owned United Country/Countryside Realty.  In recent years she has done accounting work at her daughters CPA office in Mt. Vernon, Sexton and Associates.
Cheri is survived by her husband, Dean; two daughters, Erika Sexton, of Mt. Vernon and Ann Kerns and her husband, Rocky, of Stewartsville, Missouri; two sons, Clark Mikkelson and his wife, Renee, of Willard, Missouri and William Mikkelson of Senath, Missouri; one brother, Dennis Calvert and his wife, Carol, of Munster, Texas; one brother-in-law, Bill Oldfather of Lake Ozarks, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Helen Calvert of Mt. Vernon and Mavis Stenzel and her husband, Don Amundson of Elmore, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Megan (Joe) Bridwell, Lane Mikkelson, Dylan (Katrina) Newell, Chance Gibson, Charity Page, River Page, and Emma Kerns; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Lucas, Carter and Grant.
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Esther; one brother, Lawrence Calvert; one sister, Judith Oldfather; brother-in-law, Myrl Stenzel and her father and mother-in-law, Curtis and Doris Mikkelson.  
A memorial service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Round Grove Baptist Church.
Memorial donations may be made payable to Sanctuary of Hope or Three River Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
