Carl Gene Williams

Carl Gene Williams, 80, of Washburn, passed away Oct. 29, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Washburn to Gladys (Gardner) Williams and Rolland “Bus” Williams. In 1969 he married Jan Williams who survives.
At age 17 he joined the Army with his brother Leon. He was in for 20 years. Overseas duties were Panama, Korea twice, Vietnam and Greece. He received the bronze star in Vietnam. He was a drill Sgt. at Ft. Sill for six years. After retiring from the Army, he had a grain trailer for 20 years.
He is survived by: daughter, Carla (Mark) Sutliff of Springfield and son, Larry Williams of Monett. From a previous marriage a son, Harold Williams of Rogers, Ark., Mary Ann Williams, Rogers, Ark. and Ginger Collins of Perkins, Okla.; sister Shirley Dean of Washburn, Linda Pippin of Bella Vista, Ark. and Julie Carter of Little Rock, Ark.; brother, Jack Williams and Alma of Cassville; two sister-in-laws;16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: parents Gladys and “Bus” Williams; brothers, Leon, Bill, Jim and Johnny; son, Carl “Willie” Williams of Rogers, Ark.; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2, 2019 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial with military honors will be at Washburn Prairie Cemetery.
