Cardinal baseball beats Spokane and Jasper, Lady Cardinals softball continues to roll

The Miller High School baseball team traveled to Spokane on Friday, March 27 and came home with an 11-1 victory.

 

The Cardinals scored three runs in the second inning, one run in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning. Spokane scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Miller started their week by traveling to Jasper on Thursday, March 26 and won the game 1-0 in eight innings. Kegan Krempges doubled in Nathan Cunningham for the game winner.

 

Miler is 4-1 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Marion C. Early on Monday before hosting Greenfield last night, Southwest (Washburn) tomorrow night and Wheaton on Friday night.

 

Softball

 

The Miller High School softball team played seven games last week, winning six of them.

 

Miller traveled to Pleasant Hope to take part in the Pleasant Hope Early Bird Softball Tournament from Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28.

 

On Saturday, the Lady Cardinals defeated Springfield Catholic 5-3. After the Lady Fighting Irish scored three runs in the top of the first inning, Miller scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning and three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Lady Cardinals added their final run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

Miller also beat Lamar 9-0 on Saturday. The Lady Cardinals scored five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

 

The Lady Cardinals played two games on Friday, defeating host Pleasant Hope 19-2 but losing to Marion C. Early 7-6.

 

Against the Lady Pirates, Miller scored four runs in the first inning, single runs in the second and third innings and then exploded for 13 runs in the fourth inning.

 

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning the Lady Panthers answered back for two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Marion C. Early added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead 5-1. Miller scored three runs in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 5-4. In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Cardinal scored twice to take a 6-5 lead but the Lady Panthers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with two runs for the 7-6 win.

Miller opened the tournament with a 9-2 win over Hollister on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning, a run in the fifth inning and four more runs in the sixth inning. Hollister scored single runs in the second and fourth innings.

 

The Lady Cardinals hosted Greenfield with Golden City on Tuesday, March 24 and won the game with ease, 16-1. Miller scored nine runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, five runs in the third inning and then walked it off with a run in the fourth inning.

 

Miller began their week by traveling to Lamar on Monday, March 23 and won the game 10-2.

 

The Lady Cardinals scored two runs in the first and third innings and three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Lamar scored single runs in the first and third innings.

 

Miller is 7-1 on the season and were scheduled to play against Southwest (Washburn) on Monday before traveling to Lockwood last night and then hosting Marionville tomorrow night.
