Calverley guilty of Sarah Pasco murder, sentenced in January
Steven Calverley, the last of the nine people who were arrested in the 2020 murder of Sarah Pasco was pronounced guilty of all charges on Friday, Nov. 1, following a bench trial in Christian County. Calverley, 33, of Stotts City was convicted of: first degree murder, first degree kidnapping, first degree assault, first degree robbery and four counts of armed criminal action.
The murder of Sarah Pasco
Pasco and the other victim were abducted by Gary Hunter on Aug. 16, 2020 in retaliation for what was then described by Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay as “the nonpayment of narcotics” by the other victim. Pasco was not part of the transaction, but was in the other woman’s truck at the time Hunter abducted them. She and the other woman were taken to Christina Knapp’s residence, where at first they were forced to dig their own graves before being taken to a cistern later that day. Hunter then shot both women; Pasco was killed but the other woman survived by pretending to be dead. She climbed out of the cistern after Hunter, Calverley and the others left and was able to get help.
Calverley was the only one of the nine people involved in Pasco’s murder to go to trial. The other eight, including: Hunter, Knapp, Siera Dunham, Diona Parks, Lyle DeLong, 23, Andrew Cypret, Kimberly Henderson and Frank Sheridan all made plea bargains with the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s office and received sentences ranging from 40 years in prison to probation.
Calverley will be sentenced at a hearing in Christian County scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6, and Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025. As of press time, he remains in custody in the Lawrence County Jail, where he has been held since Aug. 19, 2020.
