BEULAH MORLAN

Beulah Morlan was born to Harmon and Sadie Potter on August 24, 1923. She married Jack Morlan on October 17, 1937. They made a home together and raised four children (Dale, Clara, Darrel, Janie).
Jack built a house on a dirt road that led to nowhere in particular. Beulah made nowhere in particular the only place you wanted to be.
Through passing generations, Beulah created the feeling of home for young and old, family and friends, and anyone who would visit. She lived in the rock house that Jack built on the road to nowhere in particular for over 75 years. In December of 2024, she moved to Lacoba where she passed away on January 27, 2025.
In a sermon published as “The Weight of Glory”, C.S. Lewis talks about our desire to be in our proper place, our home in heaven. “These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself, they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.”
Grandma Bea made our memories beautiful by giving us what we all desire; the feeling of being welcome and at home. She valued us because we are God’s creation, not because of what we’ve done or could do. It is a rare event to encounter someone that can make us feel truly at home, seen, heard, and valued. It’s hard not to worship that feeling. It’s hard not to desperately want to go back for another visit. If we could listen to stories over another cup of coffee, if we could smell the beans and cornbread, if we could make just a little more music with Bea, we all would. But Bea does not live in the rock house that Papa Jack built anymore. We will have to look for her somewhere else.
If you do find her, she expects to recognize you. The inside cover of her bible has a handwritten reference to Luke chapter 13. Bea wrote “So that makes me believe we will know each other in Heaven. First, I want to see Jesus, kneel at his feet, say thanks for all he has done – Then I want to see Papa Jack, and our boy “Boo Boo”, and Max - oh Happy Day!” That’s all she wrote on the page, but if you spent time with her, you know the list doesn’t stop there. She is expecting that you will not settle for the image of home she offered us in this life, but that you would visit and experience the thing itself. She will be there waiting to welcome us all.
Beulah leaves a family of more than 50 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren behind. She contributed $10 per month to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for the last 40 plus years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would continue her support by making a contribution.
Graveside services were held on Friday, January 31, at Arnhart Cemetery, East in Purdy, Missouri with Reverend Jason Mackey and Reverend Mike Renfrow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri.
