Kyle Doss
An Aurora High School industrial arts teacher was arrested on Friday, Jan. 31, after he was accused of having inappropriate contact with one of his female students during her senior year in high school. Kyle Doss, 32, is charged with having sexual contact with a student, a Class E felony.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, administrators at the Aurora R-8 School District contacted an officer with the Aurora-Marionville Police Department on Thursday, Jan. 30, and informed him that they had received a report from the mother of the victim that Doss had engaged in improper conduct with the woman while she was one of Doss’ students. The officer also reported that Doss was placed on administrative leave after a meeting with administrators, during which he (Doss) reportedly admitted he made a “mistake.”
The officer spoke with the victim on the afternoon of Jan. 30. She said that she and Doss met during her sophomore year and developed a “friendly relationship which became romantic in 2024 during her senior year.” The woman said that she and Doss would communicate outside of school by messaging first on TikTok, and then later by phone and various social media, including Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. She also said that when she turned 18, she and Doss began exchanging sexually explicit photos and videos of each other. (It is a felony for a teacher to have any sexual contact with a student, regardless of the student’s age).
The victim also said that she would stay after school to visit Doss in his classroom/shop, where they would kiss in a back storage room; she also said that he would inappropriately touch her while they embraced and planned to have sexual intercourse after she graduated, but it never happened.
During the interview, the officer reported, the victim allowed him to see the messages she and Doss exchanged in which they discussed their romantic fantasies with each other.
The officer said he placed Doss under arrest the next day at his residence and seized his cell phone and computer; he reported that Doss invoked his right to an attorney.
Doss was released from the Lawrence County Jail on Saturday, Feb. 1, with a GPS ankle monitor; according to online court records, he appeared in court on Monday, Feb. 3, where he waived arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, March 3, for a disposition hearing.
