Apple Roll

The Record’s “Recipe of the Week”:
Apple Roll by Minnie Benbrook

DOUGH:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk
4 apples, peeled and sliced very thin

SAUCE:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 stick butter or margarine
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

To make the dough: Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening. Add the milk. Turn onto a floured board and roll out rectangles. Spread the apples over the crust and roll up as for a jelly roll. Pinch the ends together. Cut in slices 2” to 3” thick. Place in a 9x12-inch pan.

To make the sauce: Boil the ingredients together for 1 minutes. Pour over the apple rolls. Bake for 40 minutes in a 400° oven.
